| Wild Hogs is the traditional coming of age film about the middle aged man. The movie begins with an introduction to the riders of the “Wild Hogs” biker gang: Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, William H Macy, and John Travolta. In keeping with the traditional representations of social caste systems, there is a geek (Dudley), a blue collar type of guy (Bobby), a family oriented guy (Doug), and a rich guy (Woody). The movie had a “Breakfast Club,” all grown up kind of feel but much funnier! The movie follows a group of four middle aged friends, whose bond was built in college, who formed a biker gang called the “Wild Hogs.” Until now, the “Wild Hogs,” have never ventured outside of their town’s annual parade and taking a ride to the bar down the street of their suburban neighborhood. When they realize that the repetition of adulthood has set in and the spontaneity of their youth has almost completely vanished, the gang decides to pack up and ride on a “no rules” trip to the Pacific in hopes of reclaiming their exuberance and machismo. So the gang packs up their hogs, and takes off on a journey that brings out wilder then they were expecting. In the process of finding themselves they also encounter a group of real bikers called the Del Fuegos, lead by Ray Liota. After a run in with the Delf Fuegos, that ends up being far from over, they head to a town in New Mexico where they have an ultimate show down with the Del Fuegos, whom they had thought they left far behind. After reclaiming their masculinity and building their bond of friendship, they finally make it to the Pacific Coast. The entire trip is full of follies and laughs, and is something that anyone who knows a middle aged man can relate to. On a scale of 1- 10, I would give this movie a seven. It’s a great family or date movie, and I would recommend catching it in theatres! |
