This month’s spot light is on Haifa Wehbe. Lebanese’s current pop singing and modeling sensation has taken the Arab music world in the palm of her hand. She was born in Beirut, Lebanon on March 10, 1976. Raised on R&B and Jazz, and with an early modeling career, Wehbe was destined to be a star. After she released her first album entitled “It is Time,” with hit single “Agoul Ahwak,” (which translates to “I say I love you”) the Arab world knew she had arrived. She followed up with a second album in 2005, entitled “I want to Live,” with the hit single “Hayat Albi” (Which translates to “My Love”). The two albums were only a glimpse of the fame she would obtain when she released “Ana Haifa” (which translates to “I am Haifa”). In June this past year Haifa even opened for American Hip Hop Giant, 50 Cent when he played his first ever Lebanese concert in her hometown of Beirut. Haifa Wehbe has made a name for herself in her signature sultry voice, and sexy and sassy fashion sense and dance style. She brings the traditional vocalisms of the old Arabic world, to the younger generation with modern twists on the melody and rhythm. With a stage presence that makes her fun to watch, and lively but mellow beats, Wehbe is sure to get the attention of anyone who will give her a listen. |
